Day 2.5, Hancock Shaker Village

I got on the road from Philadelphia, early. In my itinerary or projection or wish list, I look at leaving at 9. This morning it was before 8. This made my trip a little different. I got to Hancock Shaker Village around 1. My wish list put arrival around 2.

I stated that I don't get souvenirs for places that I am passing through or have a souvenir from previous visits. However, I broke that rule today. I stopped at one of the rest areas in NY and saw a NY mug that was pretty. I bought it with the justification that I will be a current trip mug but I will go to southern NYC and Staten Island to as a destination.

My arrival early, plus the fact that I saw the village, this afternoon. I won't return in the morning but rather head for Old Sturbridge Village and make it to Saugus for the night. I might get a chance to see the Iron Works, tomorrow. We will have to see. I might get a change to go by Lynn Woods, a place I use to go to when I lived in Boston.

I had many pictures of Shaker Village, first general views:

Here are some of the Shaker Exteriors:

There are two type of space inside these structures, first are the living, domestic spaces:

Than there are the workshop spaces, including printing, binding, and box making. The Shaker Box is next to the Shaker Broom for true innovation.
Most notable structure is the round stone barn:
OK! For the children, there are the animals of the community:

Vacation......begin

I loaded the car yesterday, except for last minute items.....those things, I did not think about, this past week. I tried to leave the house clean. Is there something dangerous if you leave the house clean. If you leave the house better than usual, than the crooks know you are not home, for why is it better than ever. They look in the window and see no dishes in the sink, the beds made up. The garbage can is not overfilled. and the kitchen table is clean and stove grease free. Must be out.....

I got on the road around 2 and made, as planned, it to Ashland, VA. Just to spend the night. I did not have time to watch trains. Ashland is a good location for watching. I have watched trains here, in the past. I have one YouTube Subscriber who has posted a lot of videos, taken in town.

Day 1, yesterday was not really day one but reality only half day. It was only a part of the trip. I chose Philadelphia and planned to watch streetcar and light rail. Like always I had successes and failures. First was a trip to see line 101 and 102. However, the line was down for updating, until September. I headed for Penfield station on the Norrristown High Speed line. I go a few trains on video.

Now to the streetcar lines. I chose a spot which would allow for the classic PCCs. They were not running but the others were.

I had chose a hotel near the airport and planned to see The commuter on the airport line. It was to hot and I wore myself out so I I did not make it.

Since this was not a part of the original design, it was ok that I got less than wanted.

V minus 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,......Vacation

Vacation less 8, days:

This should not be posted to after I begin my vacation and maybe after I return home. I just don't want to give thieves information that I would be away. I have only begun the last prep for my trip. I got the phone and am now updating apps for the trip. I am letting the fridge get bear...I am counting eggs and slices of bread. LOL

V-1

I had intended to blog a bit each day but things snuck up on me. Batteries charged, a lot of cloths packed, and all sundries obtained. I ran out of bananas this morning, and bread at lunch. After church, I will finish loading and take a short nap before the drive tomorrow.

Usually I take my shaving kit in the suitcase but, being day one, I will have them in an overnight bag along with slippers.
